AS MY INTERNSHIP HERE COMES TO AN END…

I have had time to reflect on how special the culture is here. Before beginning my internship here, I was nervous. I would be living in a different country, starting a new job, and adapting to a unfamiliar culture. I grew up in an expressive environment, both in school and at home. I had the opportunity to learn through experience and direct exposure. With this background, I was able to express my creative side easily.  I was immersed in art, music, and exploring ways in which I am unique. This supported me on my path to discover what I am passionate about.

In contrast to the support I received, I also was presented with the view that when I grew up I would have to set these tendencies aside.  Box up my passions and artistic view and find a “real job”. Being entirely inexperienced in the professional world, I began this internship with the conception that this was the dreaded time to push away my expressive side and attempt to blend in.

While certain organizations and their environments might expect this, I was delighted and relieved to find it is not the case at Thread Together.

THE ENVIRONMENT HERE IS ONE OF SUPPORT, ENCOURAGEMENT, AND CONFIDENCE

Every employee is accepted and pushed to their best potential. Unique qualities are nurtured and valued rather than discounted. Staff members are seen and given opportunities to support their growth. The employees here work hard, caring deeply about our mission and the people we are helping in the outer world. They also acknowledge that to promote positive effect outside of the office walls, it is critical to establish proper relationships from the inside-out. This manifests within the company with a sense of affinity, community, and a tight-knit team working together.

Thread Together is full of honorable people, friendly and welcoming, yet full of depth and bountiful passion. The community we have established here is determined to brighten the lives of those around us, in this case, through restoring dignity.

EVERYONE HAS SOMETHING THAT STRIKES THEM LIKE LIGHTNING WITH EXCITEMENT

Something galvanizing them to live fully, inviting the passion that lives inside them to shine through their actions. Some people ignore these emotions, suppress these tendencies. Others embrace that inner-voice, letting it drive their work and fuel their desire to make the world a better place.

People can sometimes get caught up in the results of an idea, whether it feels too outrageous or to much of a hindrance, we forget to take responsible action to reach our desired goals. Using passion to supplement an action-plan is an unstoppable combination to promote positive change.

In summarizing my time here at Thread Together, I have gained new perspectives on what it means to be passionate and to put those feelings to good use. The community at Thread Together uses strong values and a love for people to fuel their work. I could not have asked for a more supportive environment for my first job.

Thank you to my team, especially Allan Matthews and Eve Hughes for supporting my growth, encouraging my challenging moments, and instead of stifling my passion, teaching me how to use it for greatness.

How do you use your passion?
